Solihull/Togetherness Approach Foundation Programme


Purpose

The Solihull Approach is an early intervention model that focuses on the importance of infant brain development and its relevance to infant mental health and child development.  It is suitable for all health care staff working with babies, children, young people and their parents in any setting.  It is a recommended programme in the Healthy Child Healthy Future, Universal Child Health Promotion Programme in Northern Ireland (2010)

Learning Outcomes
  • Increase knowledge of the underpinning evidence and theories in; Baby brain development, Containment, Reciprocity, Behaviour management, Attachment
  • To think about how each area can help you in your approach to working with families and children
  • To use understanding of above to increase effectiveness of interventions and outcomes in emotional, social, intellectual and physical development
  • To become familiar with the contents of the Resource pack and leaflets that can be used with families
Audience

Health Visitors, School Nurses, Nurses and Child Health Assistants identified by the Trust

Method

Online or face to face delivery

To complete this programme online you must join using a device which has a functioning camera and microphone.

Important Information

Practitioners are encouraged to read the information from the Solihull website before attending the programme. http://communityservices.heartofengland.nhs.uk

There is a requirement to attend a minimum of 4 practice sessions per year following the programme.

The programme title was changed from Solihull Approach Foundation Programme to Solihull/Togetherness Approach Foundation Programme as per EDP Q3. 22/6/2026
