Dementia: An Introduction


Purpose

To enhance the knowledge skills and attitudes of staff caring for people with dementia.

Learning Outcomes
  • Explain "What is Dementia?"
  • Describe the incidence and key presentations of dementia.
  • Identify and explain factors that contribute to behaviours we may find difficult in caring for people with dementia.
  • Explain the importance of effective communication in dementia care.
  • Identify the principles of person centred dementia care.

Method

Online or face to face delivery

To complete this programme online you must join using a device which has a functioning camera and microphone.

Please Note

This course is mapped to Tier 2 of the NI  Dementia Learning and Development Framework (2016)

Tier 2: This tier ensures staff have the knowledge to enable them to understand the needs of people living with a dementia and provide better quality care. This is generally aimed at staff with expertise in an environment which is not dementia specific or staff who are involved in any aspect of care for a person living with dementia.
