Oxygen Use in the Adult


Purpose

To raise the participants' awareness of the British Thoracic Society's (BTS) Guidelines for Oxygen use in Adult Patients in Healthcare and Emergency Settings (2017).

Learning Outcomes
  • Analyse the BTS O2 guidelines and the role of Pulse Oximetry.
  • Discuss the aims of oxygen therapy, target saturations, and the effects of hyper and hypoxaemia.
  • Outline the safe administration of oxygen, devices, flow rates and role of alert cards or armbands.
  • Explain the monitoring of adults receiving Oxygen therapy and stopping therapy.
  • Highlight safety aspects in the use of Oxygen therapy.
Audience

Registered Nurse/ Midwives (Acute and Community) (Not suitable for Paediatric Nurses).
