Pain Management for Acute Nurses


Purpose

To enhance the participant's knowlege and skills in assessing and managing an individual's pain using a person-centred approach within a multidisciplinary team.

Learning Outcomes
  • Explain the physiology and the most common types of pain
  • Discuss the principles of a person-centred approach to assessment (using an appropriate tool), planning, implementation and evaluation of pain management
  • Describe the pharmacological management of pain
  • Discuss the therapeutic and non-pharmacological interventions in the management of pain with reference to the pain tool kit
  • Reflect on practice and develop a personal action plan to enhance skills in assessing and managing an individual's pain in the acute setting
