Legal and Professional Issues for Registered Nurses and Midwives


Purpose

To provide participants with an awareness of the legal and professional considerations underpinning their daily practice in Northern Ireland.

Learning Outcomes
  • Review the principles underpinning: Accountability, Consent and Mental Capacity, Duty of Candour, Negligence, Confidentiality and Record Keeping.
  • Explore scenarios, case Law, relevant reports & NMC Code/Standards of Practice in NI.
  • Participate in group work and discussions to apply the learning and consider the implications for practice in NI.
  • Reflect on how this programme might influence practice and identifiy additional learning needs.
Audience

Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives, Health Visitors and SCPHNs.

Method

Facilitated interactive, participatory learning programme which can be delivered face to face in the classroom or via an online classroom platform. This is a very intense programme. It is expected that participants will access the full presentation (via CEC Databank) to consolidate their learning and reflect after the session.

To complete this programme online you must join using a device which has a functioning camera and microphone.
