Mid-line: Insertion, Care and Maintenance


Purpose

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively and safely insert a Midline and to provide care and maintenance post insertion.

Learning Outcomes
  • Explain the purpose and use of a midline
  • Discuss the potential benefits associated with midline insertion
  • Discuss the nursing management and care of a patient with a midline
  • Identify potential complications of midline insertion
  • Demonstrate, via simulated practice, the insertion of a midline
Audience

Registered Adult Nurses

ALL STAFF MUST HAVE COMPLETED IV CANNULATION TRAINING BEFORE ATTENDING THIS PROGRAMME

Method

Face to face delivery

Supervised Practice

Following this theoretical component the participant must engage with an appropriate skilled practitioner in his/her clinical area, to further develop a greater knowledge and understanding of this person-centred care activity. This will involve supervised practice which should be completed within 12 weeks to consolidate learning and application to practice. It is the responsibility of the individual participant to complete this activity and to confirm completion with his/her line manager.
