Being Open and the duty of candour in Health and Social Care


Purpose

The aim of this class is to provide participants with the opportunity to supplement their knowledge and understanding of the professional duty of Candour and; to reinforce their responsibility to be open and honest, with the public and those close to them, to the organisation, colleagues, their profession and regulator, at all times.

Learning Outcomes
  • Explain “Being Open”, and the duty of candour in NI vis–a-vis elsewhere in the UK.
  • Outline how Being Open and candour aligns with other HSCNI policies.
  • Discuss how Being Open aligns with the Procedure for the Reporting and Follow up of  “Service User Safety incidents” in HSCNI.
  • Explain how candour aligns with 5 stages in the “Being Open” process.
  • Describe what makes an effective apology.
