Diabetes - Type 1 Diabetes in Paediatrics


Purpose

The overall aim of the programme is to develop the knowledge and skillset required by health professionals to safely and effectively care for children with type 1 diabetes.

Learning Outcomes
  • Identify key anatomy and physiology relating to Type 1 (T1D) & Type 2 diabetes.
  • Describe the signs & symptoms of T1D.
  • Outline the role of insulin & the ways it can be delivered and stored. 
  • Explain the pathology of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), summarising treatment required.
  • Apply management principles of hypo and hyperglycaemia.

Registered Nurses, Health Visitors, SCPHN, Paramedics

Face to face delivery

Important information

This programme would be suitable for health professionals working with children with type 1 diabetes.  This is a face to face programme which involves practical workshops, interactive quizzes, smart phone usage, pump simulators, application of learning and scenario-based group work.    Pre-course content has been provided in the databank to aid your learning and should be accessed prior to the course.  Ideally try and keep these as electronic versions, though print if needed.
