Trauma Skilled Practice for Mental Health Occupational Therapists


Purpose

This one day face to face course will provide an introduction and overview of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, allow attendees to learn more about the incidence of PTSD, will increase confidence in identifying the signs and symptoms of PTSD within their client caseloads and how it impacts upon their functioning in life’s various sphere’s.  The course will also give the opportunity to discuss and reflect on how the clinician can then use this new learning to confidently plan and implement appropriate treatment programmes for client’s on their caseloads.

Learning Outcomes
  • Discuss the incidence and definition of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Mental Health.
  • Recognise the forms of trauma, abuse, neglect and responses to trauma.
  • Describe the model of Safety & Stabilisation-Remembrance & Mourning-(Re)connections
  • Identify how trauma can affect occupational participation & performance
  • Apply natural recovery following trauma, by recognizing and supporting individual strengths & resources
  • Consider the Occupational Therapy role with individuals who have experienced traumas
  • Identify guidelines that underpin Trauma Informed Practice, Awareness and Care
