Vital Signs - Undertaking and Recording (Paediatrics)


Purpose

To help participants develop the necessary knowledge and skills to safely obtain, record and report the vital signs of an infant or child.

Learning Outcomes
  • Identify the legal and professional issues associated with undertaking vital signs in paediatrics.
  • Recognise how anatomy and physiology affects vital signs.
  • Explain the importance of accurately obtaining and recording vital signs using appropriate documentation.
  • Demonstrate how to obtain and record vital signs during a simulated scenario.
  • Relate how to recognise and effectively escalate concerns.
Audience

Senior Nursing Assistants, Registered Nurses

Method

Face to face delivery  

Discussion, lecture, simulated practice and scenarios

Supervised Practice

Following this theoretical component, the participant must engage with an appropriate skilled practitioner in their clinical area, to further develop a greater knowledge and understanding of this person-centred care activity. This will involve supervised practice which should be completed within 12 weeks to consolidate learning and application to practice. It is the responsibility of the individual participant to complete this activity and to confirm completion with their line manager.
