Regional AAC Pathway and Local Trust, Symbol Based Provision (Direct Access) (Session 3)


Purpose

This training will focus on the Trust based SLT AAC Management of adults and children who cannot rely fully on literacy to support communication and so require symbols, but are able to point to a chart, book or board with a finger. It will focus on the sections of the Regional AAC Pathway and Decision Tree related to Trust based SLT provision for symbol users.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this programme participants will be better able to:

  • Explain who can be referred to CAC and who should be managed within local SLT services.
  • Plan early symbol based AAC intervention.
  • Plan vocabulary selection and organisation in AAC intervention.
  • Appraise paper based, hard and software options to meet AAC needs.
Audience

Any SLT involved in the delivery or supervision of early symbol based AAC intervention. This includes both adult and paediatric clinical contexts.

Method

1 day live online programme incorporating lecture, discussion and case-based learning.
