Purpose

To develop expertise in the Dietetic Assessment and Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Learning Outcomes

Because of this session, you will be able to: 

  • Differentiate between the types of IBD and their diagnostic criteria
  • Identify the medications used – their interactions and side effects
  • Consider the importance of nutritional balance during acute disease state, remission and post surgery
  • Recall dietary principles for patients with IBD.
  • Refer to current national and international guidelines and standards for the management of IBD.
  • The course aims to facilitate first time learning regarding IBD and also enhance the knowledge of dietitians that have some experience with IBD patients.

 

Audience

Dietitians at Band 5/6 and above with limited gastroenterology experience
