Palliative Care for Dietitians: An Introduction


Purpose

The purpose of this one-day course is to facilitate participants to:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the principles of patient centred care in the palliative care context
  • Consider their role and responsibility in providing nutritional care for people with palliative care needs
  • Apply an ethical approach to discussions on clinically assisted nutrition and hydration
Learning Outcomes
  • To know the importance of nutrition in palliative care
  • Describe common nutritional symptoms and how to manage them
  • Explore ethical discussions around food and fluid at end of life
  • Apply the palliative care approach to nutritional care
Audience
  • Dietitians with an interest in palliative care
  • Dietetic support workers/therapy assistants
  • Members of DCOP – open up to members
