Heart and Lung Sounds


Purpose

To provide participants with the essential information to undertake a physical examination of the cardiac and respiratory system in adults including recognition of normal and abnormal heart and lung sounds.

Learning Outcomes
  • Describe the anatomy and physiology of the cardiac and respiratory system.
  • Identify the key landmarks and demonstrate the techniques used to undertake cardiac and respiratory assessment.
  • Correlate possible differential diagnoses based on findings.
  • Demonstrate a physical examination of the cardiac and respiratory system via simulated practice including identification of normal and abnormal heart and lung sounds.
Audience

Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Phyiotherapists

Consideration will also be given to HSC Staff supporting/supervising Advanced Nurse Practitioner candidates

Participants are required to bring a good quality stethoscope for use on the day.
