Communication and Swallowing Needs within Adult Mental Health


Purpose

The main aim of this programme is to improve outcomes when working with adults across a range of clinical settings who are living with mental health difficulties.  Participants will increase their knowledge, skills and confidence in how to support and manage this specialist caseload.

Learning Outcomes
  • To provide an overview of mental health conditions.
  • To educate on the prevalence and strategic direction of communication and swallowing problems within a mental health client group.
  • To develop confidence in the theory of mental illnesses and their associated impact upon communication and swallowing
  • To increase awareness of appropriate assessment tools and develop skills in how to clinically manage both communication and swallowing difficulties within a mental health caseload
Audience

SLTs working with a range of adult clinical settings with service users who have Mental Health difficulties, at all Bands 5 to 8a.
