Regional AAC Pathway - CAC Follow-up Practical Session (Session 3)


Purpose

A practical, hands on learning opportunity with AAC equipment (paper and powered) to support the development of capacity within Trusts for local AAC clinical decision making and intervention planning.  This session is an optional follow up to Regional AAC Pathway and Local Trust, Symbol Based Provision (Direct Access) Session 3

Learning Outcomes

By completing this session SLT will be better able to:

  • Identify how cognitive, language, communication and motor skills impact on AAC system selection and set up
  • Demonstrate the key features of a range of hard and software, paper and powered AAC systems available within local Trusts
  • Explain the need for holistic assessment to best understand the client’s needs regarding AAC intervention
  • Describe how AAC intervention strategies must be integrated into an AAC intervention plan
Audience

This course is aimed at qualified SLTs who meet the following criteria:

  • Clinicians with a role to support Trust based AAC decision making and or AAC training
  • Those who previously attended or will be attending in 2025/26 the Regional AAC Pathway and Local Trust, Symbol Based Provision (Direct Access) Session 3

Places are limited on each session and applications will be prioritised by Trusts.

Method

Face to face small group based 2-hour session with a blend of hands on practice and demonstration, group discussion and case studies.
