  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of dehydration and how the body maintains a balance of fluid and electrolytes.
  • Discuss the advantages/disadvantages of the use of subcutaneous fluids
  • Discuss the indications/ contraindications for the use of subcutaneous fluids    
  • Outline the fundamental principles involved in the safe preparation and administration of subcutaneous fluids
  • Apply standard formulae to calculate subcutaneous infusion rates
