Behaviour Change Theory to guide SLT intervention planning in intellectual disability services


Purpose

The purpose of this programme is to enhance evidence-based practice in SLT intellectual disability services for indirect communication interventions.

Learning Outcomes
  • Describe how to apply key behaviour change principles to SLT communication intervention planning.
  • Identify the skills to apply the COM-B model to develop a behavioural diagnosis at the individual referral level.
  • Discuss the facilitators and barriers to achieving communication change when working with paid carer communication partners.
  • Identify what SLT intervention supports paid carers to implement the communication strategies contained in an individual’s Communication Profile.
  • Describe  evidence-based approaches to indirect SLT intervention (modelling, coaching, video reflection) and implications for practice.
Audience

SLT Band 5 and above working with adults who have learning disabilities with at least 2 years experience in this setting.
