Systematic Examination of the Newborn (SEN) Update


Purpose

To consolidate and update participants knowledge and skills in relation to performing the systematic examination of the newborn.

Learning Outcomes

• Identify the key principles of the Systematic Examination of the Newborn (SEN)

• Discuss the normal physiological findings in the newborn examination including findings that may require further assessment and referral

• Demonstrate the midwife’s role as an examiner, performing a systematic and holistic assessment of the newborn

• Reflect on accurate documentation of findings and communicating effectively with parents and relevant professionals

 

Audience

Registered Midwife; Registered Nurse -  applicants MUST have completed the Midwifery Examination of the Newborn Module at Queens University
