Pharmacology Update for Podiatrists


Purpose

To provide an update/refresher on the key principles of safe and effective use of drugs, using examples commonly encountered in podiatric practice.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this programme, you should be better able to:

  • Explain the importance of taking a good drug history          
  • Describe pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and adverse drug interactions/ reactions
  • Identify drugs that impact on wound healing in Podiatry
  • Evaluate the pharmacology and use of drugs used to manage pain including local anaesthetic drugs, analgesics and non –steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), in contemporary podiatric practice
  • Describe the use of Antibiotics in Podiatry
  • Discuss pharmacology in Rheumatology
