Domestic Abuse: Routine Enquiry for Professionals


Purpose

To provide an update about the extent, severity and relevance of Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse to your practice in Health and Social care. This education and simulation session supports healthcare professionals to confidently and safely ask about Domestic Abuse as part of their routine enquiry. 

Learning Outcomes
  • Recognise and define the different types of Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse, and discuss their prevalence in NI.
  • Analyse the impact of Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse on victims.
  • Gain an understanding and apply the Northern Ireland Legal Framework in relation to Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse.
  • Respond professionally and appropriately to disclosure or non-disclosure.
  • Discuss safety, planning and available resources/contacts to protect the victim and their children.
  • Recognise the function of Routine Enquiry-Confident to ask – ready to respond and have the opportunity to practice asking the question through simulated practice.
  • Practice asking routine Domestic Abuse questions confidently and sensitively.
  • Understand safeguarding responsibilities, the relevant documentation and signposting to support services.
Audience

Nurses, Registered Midwife, SCPHN Health Visitor/SCPHN School Nurse, Registered Family Nurse. Applicants who practice Routine Enquiry into Domestic Abuse in Northern Ireland as part of their role.
