Breastfeeding: Successful Breastfeeding and Relationship Building


Purpose

To enable participants to ehance their knowledge of Breastfeeding in order to empower women to breastfeed sucessfully and to nuture responsive mother baby relationships, whatever the choosen feeding method.

Learning Outcomes
  • Have meaningful conversations with pregnant women and their partners in regards to feeding and caring for their baby.    
  • Support responsive mother baby relationships.        
  • Appreciate the health benefits of breastfeeding and it's implications for the health of the nation.  
  • Develop a knowledge of the psycho/physiolgy of breastfeeding to underpin optium clinical practice.
  • Identify and use evidence based strategies which enhance breastfeeding.  
  • Reflect on practice with emphasis on supporting initiation,establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding.
  • Explore the cultural and social factors in breastfeeding.  
  • Describe the role of UNICEF, BFI and International Code of Marketing and local and regional polices and guidelines

Method

Face to Face Delivery

Please bring the following with you when you attend programme  - Off to a Good Start Book (PHA), Knitted/fabric Breast and a small baby doll .

BOTH DAYS ON THIS PROGRAMME MUST BE ATTENDED TO RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE. 

Supervised Practice

Following this theoretical component the participant must engage with an appropriate skilled practitioner in his/her clinical area, to further develop a greater knowledge and understanding of this person-centred care activity. This will involve supervised practice which should be completed within 12 weeks to consolidate learning and application to practice. It is the responsibility of the individual participant to complete this activity and to confirm completion with his/her line manager.
