Resonance and articulation difficulties in community caseload


Purpose

This course aims to equip therapists with the skills and confidence to deal with resonance disorders and articulation difficulties associated with VPI in the community setting.

Learning Outcomes

Identify resonance disorders and the causes of velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI).

  • Explain the impact of VPI on speech and articulation development.
  • Describe an oral assessment and interpret findings relevant to VPI diagnosis.
  • Identify and manage active nasal fricatives.
  • Assess and develop management plans for children with VPI-related articulation difficulties.
  • Describe the role of the Regional Cleft Palate Service in the management of cleft and non-cleft VPI.
  • Describe the role of community SLTs in the management of VPI and associated articulation disorders
