Communication and swallowing needs within a Mental Health population


Purpose

The aim of the training day is to improve outcomes when working with teenagers and adults who have underlying mental health needs within a range of clinical settings.The aim of the training day is to improve outcomes when working with teenagers and adults who have underlying mental health needs within a range of clinical settings.

Learning Outcomes
  • To provide an overview of mental health conditions.
  • To educate on the prevalence and strategic direction of communication and swallowing problems within a mental health client group.
  • To develop confidence in the theory of mental health difficulties and their associated impact upon communication and swallowing.
  • To increase awareness of appropriate assessment tools and develop skills in how to clinically manage both communication and swallowing difficulties within a mental health caseload.

 

Audience

SLTs working with a range of paediatric (12+years) and adult clinical settings, who come into contact with service users who have Mental Health difficulties. All Bands 5 to 8a.
