Medicines Management for Social Care Staff


Purpose

To share information on the safe storage, administration and disposal of medicines to help achieve and maintain high standards of medication management safety in social care settings.

Learning Outcomes
  • Consider purpose/content of a local Operational Guidance and other supporting documents
  • Examine medication sections within the RQIA Minimum Standards
  • Examine NISCC Standards and expectations within its Code Of Practice
  • Reflect on purpose and side-effects of medicines through a Medication Consideration Exercise
  • Think about common types of incidents in Mental Health & Learning Disability
  • Consider the legislative requirements of Controlled drug custody
  • Examine staff accountability and the human rights of service users with regard to medicines to include covert administration of medicines
  • Consider  important record keeping and reporting responsibilities
