Perinatal Mental Health: 2 Day Programme


Purpose

To provide participants with an overview of evidence-based research and practice related to identification, management and early intervention of mental health conditions in the perinatal period.

Learning Outcomes
  • Consider the recommendations of strategic drivers including the MBRACE reports and their application to person centred care
  • Develop an understanding of the signs and symptoms of conditions associated with perinatal mental illness and consider potential treatment options available.
  • Identify skills to respond to mothers who express suicidal ideation
  • Recognise and understand the possible impact of perinatal mental illness on infant/ child and family relationships
  • Review the use of screening tools in accordance with Antenatal and postnatal mental health NICE Clinical guidelines.
  • Explore aspects of Birth Trauma including impact, features, prevention and detection.
  • Explore the importance of effective communication skills required in the delivery of person-centred care.
  • Discuss the application of knowledge and skill to clinical practice through the use of case studies.
