Wounds Part 1 & Part 2: Fundamentals of Assessment & Management


Purpose

To enable participants to develop their understanding of tissue repair, wound healing, holistic wound assessment and management.

Learning Outcomes

 Part 1 

  • Discuss what a wound is and the impact of wounds on the individual and the health service.
  • To review the functions of the skin, phases of wound healing and what might delay wound healing.
  • Describe how to carry out an holistic assessment of the person living with a wound.

Part 2

  • Reflect on holistic assessment through use of Group work.
  • Discuss management objectives influencing choice of wound management product or device and provide a rational.
  • Use of case studies to assess, manage and plan care for patients living with wounds.
Audience

Registered Nurses, Midwives and Occupational Therapists working in Hand Clinic (with Line Manager approval)
