Catheterisation: Suprapubic (Adult)


Purpose

To enable staff to develop the necessary knowledge & skills to perform suprapubic catheterisation safely & effectively.

Learning Outcomes
  • Developed an insight into the professional issues in relation to suprapubic catheterisation.
  • Reviewed the anatomy and physiology of the urinary system.
  • Discussed the indications/ contraindications for suprapubic catheterisation.
  • Explored the advantages/ disadvantages of suprapubic catheterisation.
  • Reflected upon evidence-based practice in relation to: catheter management, ANTT & procedure for suprapubic catheterisation.
  • Have participated in simulated practice.

Face to Face Delivery

Supervised Practice

Following this theoretical component the participant must engage with an appropriate skilled practitioner in his/her clinical area, to further develop a greater knowledge and understanding of this person-centred care activity. This will involve supervised practice which should be completed within 12 weeks to consolidate learning and application to practice. It is the responsibility of the individual participant to complete this activity and to confirm completion with his/her line manager.
